Learning Resource Centre

Learning Resource Centre

The learning resource centre is a vibrant and popular space designed to support staff, students and governors at Long Field Academy. The LRC can accommodate up to 150 students at any one time and features two computer suites, traditional library and flexible learning area that will enable pupils to study during break and lunchtimes, helping them to develop as independent learners.

We offer access to a comprehensive range of more than 8000 resources. The fiction stock is exceptional, catering for all ages and abilities notably an outstanding selection of manga that is very popular. Book suggestions are welcomed and the stock is constantly reviewed to keep it lively and up to date.  All pupils and staff are automatically members of the LRC. Students can borrow up to two books at a time though this is negotiable especially before any holidays. Most books are issued for two weeks at a time. If books are lost or damaged a replacement cost will be issued.

Students and staff also have access to a vast range of ebooks and audio books in our Wellness eLibrary here: https://longfieldspencer.eplatform.co

Opening Times & Use

Opening times are from 8:00 until 16:00 Monday to Friday. Everyone has access to the LRC all day with permission from teaching staff. Staff can book the computer suites for their lessons.

Activities in the LRC include book clubs, one-off poetry readings, art club on Thursdays as well as regular competitions. Feel-Good Fridays are a perfect way to end the week where we highlight our Be Unique book collection that promote empathy, wellness and growth mind set. We also have mindfulness activities, spirograph, art therapy, games and puzzles.

Facilities

There are two floors. The ground floor features a computer suite with 30 computers, study desks and shelving for approximately 8,000 resources available to loan to students and staff. These include books, e-books, DVDs and CDs. IT facilities include access to loanable iPads, wireless technology, sixty-five desktop PCs, a printer and an interactive Smart board. The top floor is a computer suite of thirty-five computers that can be used for private study at break and lunch. Printing is enabled from the computers on either floor. Our service is customer-driven, so we do welcome any feedback that you may have to improve the LRC.

LRC Leaders

Long Field students can apply to become LRC Leaders at specific times of the year. These posts offer the opportunity for work experience, learning new skills, librarian training and certificates, appreciation from teachers and students and playing a part in what happens in the library.
