All KS3 pupils study Art for 3 hours per week. KS3 focus’ on developing key skills which are taught through the extended study of an ‘umbrella topic’ for each year group. This topic is a combination of Art movements or artists. Through exploration of these topics, pupils develop observational skills; the ability to record the world around them in a range of formats; critical analysis of the work of other artists and the application of a range of art materials.
This foundation of skills and knowledge allows students to realise the intention of their own ideas, both visually and contextually. A range of social and moral issues are explored through the work of others, providing students with the opportunity to explore their own and others’ beliefs as well developing cultural capital. We want pupils to be equipped to be confident enquirers, both visually and intellectually, with a solid understanding of the benefit of Art in helping to express, understand and appreciate the world around us.
